Serra Húnter Lecturer
Graduated in Chemistry from the University of La Laguna in 2018, obtained a Master's degree in Fermented Beverages from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in 2019, and a PhD in Oenology and Biotechnology from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in 2023, with international mention and the extraordinary doctoral award. During his predoctoral stage, he carried out his research at the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry of the URV, in the field of analytical chemistry applied to oenology, viticulture and food science.
His research focuses on the development, validation and application of spectroscopic and chemometric methodologies for the analysis and control of agri-food and oenological processes. He has worked on the use of rapid and non-invasive techniques, such as infrared spectroscopy, NIR, Raman and hyperspectral imaging, combined with multivariate calibration, classification, data fusion and machine learning methods. These tools have mainly been applied to fermentation monitoring, quality control of oenological and agri-food products, authentication and decision-making in vitivinicultural processes.
He has carried out his research activity in different national and international institutions, including Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Università degli Studi dell'Insubria and Stellenbosch University. His career combines research in analytical chemistry and chemometrics with a clear applied orientation, especially in the development of robust, transferable analytical tools adapted to real production environments.
In the field of teaching, he has participated in courses on analytical chemistry, chemometrics and instrumental analysis, both at the URV and at Stellenbosch University. He has also collaborated in teaching innovation activities related to the use of digital tools, active methodologies and artificial intelligence applied to university teaching.
